“So Catherine, I heard something very interesting from one of the day shift technicians.”
“And what's that?” Catherine asked as she closed her locker before turning to face Sara Sidle.
“That you and Greg were shopping for jewelry over the weekend,” Sara replied with a smirk.
“And your point is?”
“Don't you think that he's a bit young?” Sara responded with another question.
Catherine sighed as she appraised the other criminalist, wondering what her motivation was this time.
“A bit young for what?” Catherine finally asked.
“For you.”
“What are you talking about Sara?”
“You and Greg were shopping for jewelry, don't you think it's a bit obvious?”
Sara smirked once more and she looked as if she can't wait to get confirmation of what she thinks is happening between Catherine and Greg before running off to Grissom or even Ecklie as if they were both in high school.
“You know the only problem with office gossip is that it's never the full story. Yes, I went shopping with Greg. And yes we went to a jewelry story, but before you make any more assumptions, you should know that I was only helping him pick out something for his mother's birthday.”
“Sure and why did Greg need your help?” Sara continued to probe.
“I don't know why but why do most people want a close friend with them when they purchase something expensive for someone else? Moral support or perhaps a second opinion? Or maybe it's just to help with the sales staff so that they can make their own decision with out being pressured to buy something they don't want?”
“Still doesn't seem to add up to me.”
“Sara, I don't know what your problem is. Greg asked me to go with him when he shopped for his mother's gift. I agreed. End of story. Don't you have a case that needs your unwavering attention?” Catherine asked, her voice harsher than she had intended.
“Fine,” Sara flatly responded before turning on her heel and leaving the room.
“What's her problem?” Greg asked as he entered the room.
“She didn't want to believe that we were merely shopping for a gift for your mother on Saturday.”
“Well that's not all that we did,” Greg asked with a grin.
“No, but I figured that the whole lab doesn't need to know about that,” Catherine responded with her own grin.
“True, we're still on for Friday?”
“I wouldn't miss it for the world.”
